Our Story

Nepali-Mart traces its roots back to 1978, when visionary entrepreneur Ram Prasad Nepal opened a small general store in the bustling alleys of Ason, Kathmandu. What began as a tiny shop selling rice, salt, and lentils soon became a cornerstone for local families, thanks to Ram Prasad's relentless focus on fair trade practices, supporting local farmers, and ensuring product authenticity.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Nepali-Mart earned recognition for being among the first in Nepal to standardize pricing on essential goods — an initiative applauded by local consumer rights groups at the time. Critics and analysts often noted how Nepali-Mart helped reduce reliance on imported packaged goods, instead prioritizing partnerships with homegrown producers from places like Jhapa, Ilam, and Mustang.

By 2000, Nepali-Mart had evolved into a chain of modern retail stores, known for its clean shopping environments, transparent pricing, and strict quality control standards. In 2008, we were featured in Nepal Business Review for introducing eco-friendly packaging and supporting rural women's cooperatives.

In 2014, we launched our online shopping platform, becoming one of the earliest adopters of e-commerce for everyday goods in Nepal. Today, Nepali-Mart is celebrated for:

Founder's Message

"When I first opened Nepali-Mart in 1978, my goal was simple — to create a shop where everyone, no matter their background, could afford quality goods without fear of unfair pricing or adulteration. Over the years, Nepali-Mart has grown, but that goal has remained the same. I am proud that our mart continues to support Nepali farmers, small manufacturers, and the community at large. Thank you for being part of our journey."
